An Introduction to Laughter Yoga (SUNDAY TRAIL ONLY)

For the Art Night Sunday Trail, Artist Barry Sykes leads participants through the history and basics of Laughter Yoga, a simple movement and breathing technique that takes you from reluctant giggling, through forced fake laughing, to real and contagious glee.

Used widely in schools, prisons, hospitals and business, this sequence of exercises has been shown to help manage stress, break down inhibitions and even increase pain thresholds. Sessions are held in specially selected community spaces throughout the day.

Barry Sykes is an artist based in Walthamstow, who uses sculpture, performance and purposely low-tech methods to examine artifice, connection and genuine experience. He has exhibited widely around the UK and Europe, including Tate Modern, Tate St Ives and was most recently Radical Essex artist in residence at Oakwood Sun Club, Essex.

Suitable for all ages and abilities.
