ABOUT THE WORK

Emma Talbot presents a series of paintings on silk installed at two locations in Walthamstow. A painted canopy suspended from the ceiling in the William Morris Gallery Tea Room will respond to the work of Madge Gill, a self-taught artist, medium and spiritualist who was born in Walthamstow in 1882. Talbot will interpret Gill’s visionary spiritualist approach to painting, drawing and embroidery from a contemporary perspective, in addition to presenting a second painting on silk at Mirth, Marvel and Maud, reflecting on the unique history of this site and the multiverse principles of spiritualism.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Emma Talbot’s work and research explores visual autobiography. Working across drawing, painting, installation and sculpture, she articulates internal narratives as visual poems, or associative ruminations, based on her own experience, memories and psychological projections.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The William Morris Gallery is housed in a Georgian house, built in the 1740s and set in Lloyd Park in Walthamstow. The Grade II* listed building was Morris’s family home from 1848 to 1856. Mirth, Marvel and Maud is a Grade II listed pub and entertainment venue.
