ABOUT THE WORK

For Art Night 2019 London-based artist Emma Talbot will present a new series of paintings on silk installed at William Morris Gallery and other Walthamstow locations. A painted canopy suspended from the ceiling in the William Morris Gallery Tea Room will respond to the work of Madge Gill, a self-taught artist, medium and spiritualist who was born in Walthamstow in 1882, and whose work features in a major solo exhibition opening at William Morris Gallery opening on 22 June 2019. Emma Talbot will interpret Madge Gill’s visionary spiritualist approach to paintings, drawing and embroidery from a contemporary perspective, in addition to presenting a second display of paintings on silk elsewhere in Walthamstow.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Emma Talbot’s work and research explores visual autobiography. Working across drawing, painting, installation and sculpture, she articulates internal narratives as visual poems, or associative ruminations, based on her own experience, memories and psychological projections.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The William Morris Gallery is housed in a Georgian house, built in the 1740s and set in Lloyd Park in Walthamstow. The Grade II* listed building was Morris’s family home from 1848 to 1856.
