The Magic Flute, 2017
ABOUT THE WORK
Frances Stark’s The Magic Flute is a collaborative interpretation of Mozart’s famous opera. Working with the conductor Danko Drusko, Stark re-orchestrated and translated the opera to be performed and recorded with a group of young musicians (aged between 10-19) from Los Angeles. The work is transformed into a text-based video with animated subtitles narrating the opera in place of the sung libretto.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Frances Stark is an interdisciplinary artist and writer, whose practice centres on the use and meaning of language and the translation of this process into the creative act. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the world.
